Frequently Asked Questions

 

1.  What is the language of communication in school?

Classes are generally held in French except in preschool bilingual classes, language classes (English, Spanish, Mandarin), Music, ... Extra-curricular activities are conducted in English .  Communication between students and school staff is generally in English, while that between students and teachers is in French.

 

2.  Are students obliged to eat at the canteen?

Students are free to buy food from the canteen or they can bring their own food from home.

 

3.  In which school should I enroll my child/ren in case we need to leave EFM for another country?

All French schools belonging to the AEFE (Agency for French Education Abroad) network accept transferees from EFM  and students will thus continue in the same class level.

 

4.  What time does the classes start and end?

7:30 – 13:10 for Preschool and Elementary  School students
7:30 – 15:20 for Secondary students (except on Wednesdays and Fridays during which secondary students do not have afternoon classes).

 

5.  What happens if my child gets sick while in school?

The school has a registered nurse, who keeps the medical records of every student.

 

6.  How is the school year organized?

A school year is comprised of 36 weeks from early September to end of June.  School breaks are scheduled every 6 to 7 weeks.  Please see the school calendar on line.

 

7.  Does the school accept students in the middle of the school year?

If a student comes from another French school, the transfer to EFM in the middle of a school year is automatic.  Otherwise, admission or non-admission of a student is decided depending on the situation.

 

8.  Does the school arrange field trips for the students?

Professors organize field trips to further illustrate certain topics, and to let students discover places around Metro-Manila that are related to class lessons.

 

9.  When are the students graded?

In  primary level, teachers communicate to parents the grades obtained by their child/ren every trimester through the grade sheet. 

In preschool,  an evaluation report is given to parents every semester.

In secondary level, the grades are given every 5 weeks and are attached to the “carnet de correspondance”.  Grade sheets are sent to parents every 12 weeks after the “conseil de classe” meeting.

 

10.  Will my child get assistance in case he/she has difficulties in school?

Teachers in primary level organize tutorial sessions in their class to help students with   difficulties. 
 Tutorial classes in Math and French are arranged for students in 6ème, 5ème and 2nde.
 Students may also attend sessions in the afternoon where they can do their homework.

 

11.  Do we pay for school books?

The school provides the text books and notebooks to Primary students, and text books only to   Secondary students.

 

12.  Do students have theology class?

The school is non-sectarian and does not give theology classes to students.  History of religions is discussed as part of some lessons. 

 

13.  What other foreign languages are taught in school?

English, German, Spanish, Italian and Mandarin.
